Solenoid D59-105-01 is a fuel shutoff or stop solenoid: on the controller signal it cuts the diesel supply and stops the engine.
Its two failure modes give opposite symptoms: if it does not open, the engine cranks and will not fire; if it does not close, the engine will not stop on the key and the valve has to be closed by hand. Both are easily mistaken for a pump fault.

How to verify before ordering
- Match reference, coil voltage (12 V or 24 V) and mounting type (threaded or flange).
- Check whether the solenoid is two- or three-wire: three-wire units carry a hold-in coil and will not accept a two-wire replacement.
- Inspect plunger and return spring in the shutoff mechanism: a bent plunger destroys a new solenoid within a few cycles.
Frequently asked questions
The engine will not stop on the key. Is it the solenoid?
Often, but confirm the signal first: if no voltage reaches the connector when you switch off, the fault is in the controller or the wiring, not the solenoid.
Can I run with the solenoid bridged?
Only as a test and for minutes: bridged, the engine cannot be stopped on the key. Never leave it that way on a set in service.
